How to log in to Desktop GP

This article explains how to log in to Desktop GP and access the toolbar.

Introduction

DGP has an intuitive interface that will allow you to communicate with your patients via SMS, Smart and Video.

Before you begin to use DGP, you will now become familiar with the interface, and the functionality that it provides.

Objectives

  • Familiarise yourself with the DGP interface

Logging into Desktop GP

The DGP app will automatically start when you log into Windows, and a notification icon will display in the system tray near the clock in the bottom right-hand corner of the Windows desktop.

If DGP has been closed, it can be opened by double-clicking the icon on the Desktop of your PC:

Positioning the toolbar

The icon can be used to adjust how the DGP toolbar is displayed. By default, the toolbar will stay hidden until you open your clinical system.

To position the DGP toolbar:

Right-click the icon, mouse over the Move buttons option on the menu displayed:

There are two options to select from:

  • Float with <Emis/SystmOne> (The toolbar will attach to your clinical system and will hide if it is closed or minimised).
  • Always on Top (The toolbar always remains visible and on top of other windows).

Re-sizing the toolbar

The size of the DGP toolbar can be changed. By default, the size of the toolbar will reduce automatically if needed.  Right-click the icon, mouse over the auto DGP size option on the menu displayed.

There are two options to select from:
  • Reduce DGP Size Automatically (The size of the toolbar will automatically reduce if needed).
  • Keep DGP Size Constant (The toolbar stays the same size).



The Toolbar

The toolbar provides quick access to all of the key functions of DGP:

Key

New messages – Opens the new messages window and allows you to view replies from patients.

Quick message – Opens the Quick Message window so you can send a message.

Quick Video - Opens the Quick Video window so you can send a video consultation.

Message Options – Opens the options window.

Move – Click and drag to move the task bar.

 

Quick message

DGP provides instant one click messaging for GPs and is compatible with EMIS and TPP SystmOne.

Quick Messages can be composed using pre-written message templates, or you can define your own message templates.

Quick Video

To invite a patient to video consultation, have the patient active in your clinical system, then click the quick video button on the toolbar. How to set this up and more detail on using this feature will be covered in depth later in the guide.

To access more options from the toolbar, click the Options button:
