Background and benefit

Web Messenger reduces the cost of patient messaging, and provides much more engaging content in your messages.

Every standard SMS text that you send to a patient costs up to 3p per segment, which means that any message that is 3 segments long is costing your ICB 9p per patient.

Let’s say that you are sending a Health Campaign to 1500 patients; a standard batch message SMS text comprised of 3 segments would cost the NHS £67.50, whereas a message sent via Web Messenger would only cost £23.25 (a cost saving of 66%).

How Web Messenger works

When a message is sent using Web Messenger, your patients will receive a one
segment SMS that will contain a link to a smart message. This is more visually engaging for your patients and also eliminates spelling mistakes and random replies from patients.

Downloading message templates

The first step in preparing MJog for Web Messenger is to update your message templates.

This process will ensure that you have the most up-to-date Smart templates for your appointment-related messages. You will need to download three templates.

  1. Appointment reminder

  2. Confirmation

  3. Friends and Family

  • On the home page of Mjog click Template Builder

  • Click Download templates

  • Click Appointments

  • Click Download Templates next to the <Appointment Reminder> template

  • Click Download Templates next to the <Confirmation> template

  • Click Download Templates next to the <Friends and Family> template

Editing templates for branch surgeries

The second step to preparing MJog for Web Messenger is to update your message templates, so that MJog inserts the correct location names for your branch surgeries (you do not have to do this if you do not have any branch surgeries).

This process involves editing the Smart templates for your appointment-related messages:

  • Appointment Reminder

  • Confirmation

  • Friends and Family

  • On the home page of Mjog click Settings

  • Click the Messages tab

  • Click Change my message templates.

  • Click the Appointments tab.

Click Edit next to the <Appointment Reminder> template.

  • Click the Smart tab

  • Select the <<Hospital Name>> field.

  • Click the <<>>Site Name field.

  • Click Save Changes.

Updating Remaining Appointment Templates

Repeat the previous steps for the remaining templates:

  • Confirmation

  • Friends and Family
